The programme for this concert marks the world premiere of the Concerto for Piano composed by Cyril Orcel.
The concert will open with a dynamic overture, also written by a Belgian composer, Frédéric Devreese. He is well-known for his film music, but has also written works in all different musical genres; opera, ballet, chamber music, symphonies and music for voice and instrumental works.
Cyril Orcel was born in Toulouse and now lives in Brussels, and this will be the first time he will hear his concerto for piano performed in a concert.
The popular “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff is based around 24 of the 46 medieval poems discovered in the 19th Century in the Benedictine Monastry of Benediktbeuern in
It is presumed that the composer found inspiration among the Renaissance composers (Byrd, Monteverdi) and certain passages are even reminiscent of Stravinsky. The orchestration of “Carmina Burana” is rhythmical and harmonically simplistic.
